Security & Peace
No metric of progress matters to a family that cannot sleep safely, or a farmer afraid to reach his own land. Peace is the first infrastructure, and everything else in Benue is built on top of it.
Where Benue Stands
Benue’s security story is told in its farmland. For years, armed attacks on rural communities have displaced families across Guma, Gwer West, Agatu, Logo and beyond, while banditry along the Sankera axis has taxed trade and travel in the north-east. Hundreds of thousands of Benue people have known life in displacement camps.
The cost is counted in more than lives. Every abandoned settlement is a harvest lost, a school emptied, a market thinned. A state blessed with some of the most fertile land in Nigeria cannot reach its potential while its farmers weigh their safety before their planting.
What Must Change
- Community-rooted security that protects farming settlements and rural roads
- Dignity, support, and a route home for displaced families
- Early-warning cooperation between communities, traditional rulers, and security agencies
- A public voice that refuses to let Benue’s security be normalised as news
How Progress Is Measured
- Families returned home safely, season on season
- Farmland back under cultivation in affected corridors
- Attacks prevented through community early warning, not merely mourned after
- Trade moving freely again along the Sankera axis
